commissions
the ten-minute play
Subject or theme of the ten-minute play is at the complete discretion of the commissioner. They are limited in length to what can be performed in roughly ten minutes or less.
Commission includes two printed, bound copies of the play signed by the author. Future productions of the play, or any publication of the play, will include acknowledgment of the commissioner. Performance, and other, rights to the play remain the sole property of the author.
Upon commissioning of a play, the author will contact the commissioner within ten days to discuss the themes and content of the play. At the end of this discussion, the author and commissioner will sign a commission agreement stating the general theme of the play. Completion of the play will take place no more than forty days after this commission agreement is signed.
Author reserves the right of refusal with regards to the writing of the play for any reason--so it's a good idea to contact the author beforehand to discuss the play. If the author exercises his right of refusal any monies paid to the author by the commissioner up to that point will be returned-minus any fees incurred by third parties (ie, bank or PayPal transaction fees).
Cost of commissioning a ten-minute play is placed at $250.00 (Two-Hundred and Fifty Dollars).
By agreeing to commission a play, the commissioner agrees to the perceeding terms and conditions.
the full-length play
Commissioning a full-length play is different in character to commissioning a ten-minute play. In the instance of the latter the commissioner was able to choose the theme and content of the play while in the instance of the former the commissioner instead invests in work to be completed on a play in which all the artistic control is in the hands of the author. Thus, subject or theme of the full-length play is at the complete discretion of the author.
Full-length means that the play, when performed, will be at least one hour and a half in length.
Commission includes two printed, bound copies of the play signed by the author. Future productions of the play, or any publication of the play, will include acknowledgment of the commissioner. This acknowledgment will take the following form: "Work on this play was completed with generous support from [Commissioner's Name Here]."
All performance rights to the play remain the sole property of the author
In addition to receiving completed copies of the play, the commissioner will be entitled to view drafts of the play as it progresses toward completion. The commissioner will also be invited to any readings, public or private, of the play in progress.
Author reserves the right of refusal with regards to the commission of the play for any reason. If the author exercises his right of refusal any monies paid to the author by the commissioner up to that point will be returned-minus any fees incurred by third parties (ie, bank or PayPal transaction fees).
Cost of commissioning a full-length play is placed at $2,000.00 (Two-Thousand Dollars).
By agreeing to commission a play, the commissioner agrees to the perceeding terms and conditions.
